Last summer, we saw Wolverhampton Wanderers selling Hayao Kawabe to Standard Liege for €1m.
The midfielder had belonged to the Molineux side for one and a half years, always kept on loan at Grasshoppers, and wasn’t even used by Wolves before having his exit negotiated.
Now as Belgian outlet Walfoot writes about his time at Standard Liege, they actually have some compliments towards him.
It’s said Kawabe has been the club’s ‘X Factor’, as he was a solution to their attacking problems.
Walfoot claims that the player’s technical accuracy is ‘above average’, as well as the ‘touch of spontaneity’ he adds to the squad.
Kawabe has six goals and two assists in 18 appearances so far, and his good start at Standard Liege is the reason why he’s now worth ‘close to double’, as Transfermarkt value him at €2.8m.
By seeing this, Wolves may now wonder whether they had enough patience with him, or even if he should’ve been given a chance at Molineux.
In Belgium, they call his purchase a ‘golden deal’ for Standard Liege, and we’ll have to see how far he can go.
