Sunderland are among the clubs in the race to sign Ajax’s Chuba Akpom in the winter market.

On Thursday, we covered claims from France which stated Sunderland are pushing to buy the forward. In addition to the Black Cats, RC Lens and Lille are also showing interest in him.

The 29-year-old has the experience of playing in the Championship from his past spells at Middlesbrough and Hull City. He left Boro for the Dutch club in August 2023 and Régis Le Bris’ side are reportedly looking to bring him back to England in January.

Claims of Sunderland’s interest in Akpom have reached the Dutch media, more specifically Algemeen Dagblad, who then give their own take.

The newspaper claims the Eredivisie side currently have at least five players that aren’t good enough for them and the Sunderland target is among them. They add none of them are ‘moving quickly towards the exit’ at this moment in time.

With regards to Akpom, AD state he has ‘no interest’ in joining the Championship side in this window.

The forward has managed eight goals and an assist from 31 games for Ajax this season ad is regularly pinpointed as someone who can leave and who probably shouldn’t have been bought in the first place.

Football media in the Netherlands can be very harsh.
