On Thursday, Foot Mercato stated Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté has been offered to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
The midfielder’s deal expires in 2023 and talks over his renewal have been going on for almost a year. Former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia led the negotiations but failed to convince the player.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who state the west London club’s new leaders maintain contact with the 31-year-old.
A two-year deal with an option to extend it by 12 months was offered to the player. The France international is happy with his life in London but wants a longer contract as it will be the last big deal of his career.
The ex-Leicester City star has the upper-hand since his current deal expires at the end of this season. Chelsea’s failure to tie down Kanté to a new deal may see Tottenham snatch him from them.
L’Eqiupe state the midfielder has ‘kept a link’ with Antonio Conte, who signed him for the Blues in 2016. This could allow Spurs to try to reunite Kanté and Conte at the north London club, provided Chelsea fail to secure his long-term future.
For now, the Frenchman and his camp will give themselves time to determine Kanté’s future. Time will tell whether it will be at Chelsea, Tottenham or another club.
