Yerry Mina has finally become the ‘gladiator’ many were waiting for after he left Everton on a free transfer in the summer.

That’s at least according to La Nuova, who praise the defender’s performances for Cagliari since arriving at the club in the January transfer window.

Mina left Everton in the summer on a free transfer, bringing an end to a frustrated five year stay at Goodison Park that had promised on occasion but was eventually ruined by injuries.

He eventually joined Fiorentina on a free transfer but was only able to make seven appearances, totalling 185 minutes, for the club as injuries again played their part.

He eventually joined Cagliari at the end of January and hasn’t looked back since, making 11 appearances and already hitting 950 minutes in total.

He’s become a key player and La Nuova say it’s now a case of “No Yerry Mina, no party” for the Italian side.

The Colombian defender has become the cornerstone of Cagliari’s fight to stay in Serie A, establishing himself as the leader of the tam and earning the adoration of the fans, who’ve already given him idol status.

Mina was again at his best on Saturday in the clash with Lecce, with his presence proving to be ‘decisive’ on the pitch but also off it, where he instructed ball boys to waste time and even played the role of pantomime villain by wasting time and frustrating Lecce.

He was a ‘force of nature’ and has become a ‘gladiator’ for Claudi Ranieri’s side, giving them hope of avoiding relegation and ensuring life after Everton simply hasn’t been a slide into obscurity.
