Harry Kane is overshadowing everything at Tottenham Hotspur this week, with the striker’s failure to turn up for training the biggest story in football right now.

According to updates on Tuesday, the England captain is surprised at the reaction to his AWOL stance, which presents the question of just what Kane thought the response would be.

Elsewhere at Spurs, the club still await the arrival of Bryan Gil, who Tottenham have secured in a summer deal from Sevilla, with Erik Lamela going the other way.

Lamela has faced the La Liga club’s local media on Tuesday, and has been asked what attracted him most when he found out there was the chance to leave Tottenham for Sevilla.

Estadio Deportivo quote the Argentine as saying: “What seduced me the most is the club, a team that always fights, that won many titles in these years, the city as well, and the personal challenge of showing and giving what is mine, of giving what I know I can give.”

This will be Lamela’s first experience of Spanish football, and he’s been quizzed on how he sees the differences between his new challenge and his previous experiences: “It was a place I wanted to reach, Spanish football, it was something that made me very excited, so when the opportunity arose I was very excited and wanted to come, luckily it happened and now the challenge is mine. As time goes by, it will be seen, I came to help the team and then there is the competition, where you have to give your best.”

Having dropped out of the picture for the Argentina national team, the 29-year-old has insisted that a return isn’t at the forefront of his thinking right now. He’s completely focused on Sevilla, and anything which comes after that will be received as a bonus.
