Bryan Gil went on loan to Valencia midway through last season, and the club quickly fell in love with the Tottenham owned player.
There were comparisons with club legends, and even suggestions parts of his game were similar to Maradona. The hype was never fully fulfilled, it would have been impossible for that to happen, but the loan was still successful.
Valencia wanted to take him back in the summer, and many of the club’s fans were also keen for that to happen. Tottenham, however, wouldn’t allow a deal that was achievable for the La Liga side.
Gil stayed at Spurs instead and simply didn’t get the prominence he needed to progress. That made another January loan move likely, and this time he went back to Sevilla… the club who sold him to Tottenham.
Celebrating his 22nd birthday on Saturday, Gil started his first match since the move was completed. He scored in a 2-0 victory over RCD Mallorca, and after the game spoke about why he was so happy to seal the loan.
Gil is pleased to be back somewhere he had success and where he can quickly have an impact again, and Marca quote him as saying: “Here I am very happy, in the club that saw me grow, I cannot explain it with words. I am very excited.”
Manager Jorge Sampaoli also expressed his happiness with the move, and he feels Gil can offer something in both defence and attack.
