Gabri Veiga has been the breakthrough star in La Liga this season, and unusually for such a situation he doesn’t play for any of the league’s biggest clubs.
Celta Vigo have got themselves a gem but it’s unlikely they’ll be able to keep the 20-year-old in the long term. The midfielder’s contract has a buyout clause of €40m and whilst that’s clearly a significant amount of money it’s not a figure which would scare away big Premier League clubs.
Multiple sides have been linked with Veiga, and Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo says both Arsenal and Newcastle United are considering paying that €40m to seal a deal and beat the competition.
Mundo Deportivo say that if it came to a choice between Arsenal and Newcastle, then the player would opt for the Gunners. He’s said to be more attracted to Mikel Arteta’s side than teaming up with Eddie Howe.
Real Madrid are also interested, but they don’t want to pay the €40m. Instead they’re looking at other formulas to try and agree a deal with Celta Vigo.
Should Celta Vigo hold firm then it hands advantage to Arsenal and Newcastle United.
