Brighton & Hove Albion were in the picture to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Armando Obispo in the winter market.
That’s at least what Eindhovens Dagblad are reporting, and they cover Brighton interest in the centre-back when reviewing PSV’s business in the last window.
The report mainly focuses on the Eredivisie side’s failure to bring in a second striker and further improve the defence. They took left-back Tyrell Malacia on loan from Manchester United, but ED say he alone won’t be able to solve their concerns.
Olivier Boscagli, Ryan Flamingo, Adamo Nagalo and Obispo are the four centre-backs at the Dutch club. The report states PSV technical director Earnest Stewart decided not to bring in a new centre-back and is ‘betting’ on the quartet as ‘assets for the backline’.
ED insist Stewart’s decision ‘doesn’t inspire confidence’ considering they conceded 18 goals this year.
They then focus on Brighton and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim’s looking at Obispo. He made only three starts in all competitions and played 402 minutes from 11 games. Last December, Stewart offered him a new contract until 2027.
Despite the limited playing time at PSV, the Dutchman didn’t entertain interest from the Seagulls and the German club. ED state Obispo stayed and now wants to ‘fulfil his promise’ at the Eindhoven club.
Meanwhile, Brighton signed Eiran Cashin from Derby County on January 31st.
