Following the injury sustained by Wesley Fofana that will rule him out for the foreseeable future, Chelsea decided there was a need for a new centre-back.
They quickly turned their attention to AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi, and a deal was swiftly organised between the Blues and the Ligue 1 club.
That was announced a while ago, but there have been new developments, according to L’Equipe on Tuesday, with the player finally travelling to finalise the Chelsea transfer.
The newspaper report that after the two clubs agreed on a €45m fee, the defender made the trip to London on Tuesday (today), where he is currently ‘undergoing his medical’ before signing a five year contract with the Stamford Bridge side.
He will then be able to rejoin an old teammate of his in Benoît Badiashile, who was bought by Chelsea last season.
The player made 49 appearances for the principality side last season in all competition and was their vice-captain, showing just how important of a loss this is for them, albeit with €45m in their pocket to wipe their tears with.
