FC Twente defender Joshua Brenet has confirmed he had “serious interest” from Fulham in January and would like to move this summer.
The 29-year-old has been speaking to Voetbal International, via Twente Fans, about his ambitions to make a step up this summer if the offer is there to do so.
He’s been impressing again for Twente this season and that has seemingly earned him admirers, particularly as his current contract is set to expire in June 2024.
Fulham showed an interest in the January transfer window as they looked at options to provide competition to Kenny Tete in the right-back spot.
A report that month made it clear they were showing concrete interest in a deal and the player would be keen on the switch as playing in the Premier League is his dream.
That move never happened, but it seems there was a real possibility it could have, and he’d still be keen on it if Marco Silva’s side come calling again.
“I am very curious about where my ceiling is,” he said.
“I had great years at PSV, after which it didn’t work out in Germany. At Twente I got into a flow again and now I’m very curious what exactly my level is.
“Last winter Fulham showed serious interest in me. I don’t want to say I can handle Premier League football just like that, but a club of a similar level, I would like to try. I am ambitious.
“The idea was then (when he signed a new deal last year): one more year of FC Twente and then see what comes. The club knows my dreams and ambitions. I would love to take another step up this summer.”
