Fulham had scouts in the stands to watch Heerenveen defender Milan van Ewijk last week as they eye up a potential move.
That’s according to journalist Sander de Vries, who says they were there to watch the right-back and not goalkeeper Andries Noppert.
We covered comments from Heerenveen technical director Ferry de Haan last week that stated Fulham had been at their fixture over the weekend to watch someone, hinting that it was Noppert on their radar.
It seems he may have been mistaken, though, as De Vries says it is actually Van Ewijk that they are interested in.
“Last week Fulham were in the stands for Milan van Ewijk and FC Copenhagen for Andries Noppert,” Feanonline report him saying on Leeuwander Courant’s Omroep Abe podcast.
“The club has not yet been to Heerenveen to make an offer, as far as I know. Only at the moment that Fulham will come to the stadium with a delegation, they are concretely interested.”
That interest appears to be well known in the Netherlands, with ESPN sitting down to talk to the player today and discussing the interest from Marco Silva’s side.
They say that Van Ewijk’s ‘good season’ has helped to put him ‘in the interest’ of Fulham, and the 22-year-old has admitted he has conflicted thoughts about the potential switch.
“The feeling and the plan just have to be right. I’m a guy who goes by feeling. If Fulham doesn’t suit me, then I won’t go,” he told them.
“Of course, it is a big step to Fulham. The plan has to be good, otherwise I’ll be wasting my time there. I will develop, of course, because the level is higher there.
“It would be nice to first develop myself further somewhere in between and then from there maybe go to the Premier League or the Bundesliga. Just step by step. Otherwise the step could be too big. Then I fall down and stand still. Then I am unhappy in England, for example.
“Saying no to a club like that at the moment is difficult. Maybe it is the right time to make this step. I don’t know.
“It’s tricky. On the one hand, I would like to go, but you have to think carefully about what you are leaving behind and whether it is the right move.”
