Striker Troy Parrott has insisted he’s chosen the ‘perfect club’ to follow Tottenham in AZ Alkmaar after completing a move to the Dutch club this week.
The striker has been speaking to Voetbal International about his move after joining them following a successful spell with Excelsior last season.
Parrott has been signed by Alkmaar as a replacement for the departed Vangelis Pavlidis, completing his move from Tottenham on Saturday in an €8m deal after undergoing a medical on Friday.
The move has brought an end to a seven year stay with Tottenham, who he joined in 2017 from Irish side Belvedere FC in Ireland.
He moved his way up the youth ranks from there but has spent the last few years out on loan in various spells with the likes of Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston North End and then Excelsior last season.
It was his loan spell last year that proved to be his most successful and has convinced Alkmaar to pay for him this summer to replace their departed star.
Parrott is now focused on building on his tally of 17 goals and five assists in all competitions last season, and believes Alkmaar are the ideal club to join now he’s left Tottenham permanently.
“Before I signed here, I heard a lot of good stories about AZ and I spoke to Kenzo Goudmijn, among others, with whom I became friends when I played with him,” he said.
“I think AZ is the perfect club for me to take the next steps in my development.
“I will take with me the useful experience of last year. It helps me that I already played in the Netherlands last season and am therefore used to the competition and life here.”
