It’s not with joy that the Argentine media today talks about Leeds United’s pursuit for Sebastián Driussi.
As TyC Sports features a story about the Whites’ chase for the Austin FC player, they point out that this chase from the Premier League only makes a return to his home country a more distant prospect.
Driussi left River Plate in 2017 to join Zenit. Since then, the Buenos Aires giants have always had the wish of signing him back, and even got close to doing so at the start of 2021. However, that didn’t happen, and he ended up moving to MLS the following summer.
So TyC Sports today wonders if the striker is ‘further away’ from River, now that Leeds want him. They refer to the Elland Road side as an ‘English club who lately gained relevance thanks to Marcelo Bielsa’.
It’s pointed out that although the Whites are not alone in the race, the two German clubs who approached the player did not accelerate the negotiation.
So even though it’s still to be made clear how advanced Leeds talks to sign Driussi are, we continue to see stories saying that the other clubs who are interested don’t seem to be pushing strongly for his transfer. That’s certainly a good sign for Jesse Marsch.
