Anderlecht midfielder César ‘Chino’ Huerta has insisted that Liverpool never made a concrete or formal proposal for him, despite the rumours about a move to Anfield.

TUDN cover an interview with Huerta today in which he discusses Liverpool’s apparent interest and why he ended up at Anderlecht instead.

The Mexican was heavily linked with a move to Anfield last summer, with several reports making it clear that they had lined up a deal to sign him then send him on loan to Sunderland.

Everything appeared to be ticking along nicely and likely to be completed but it eventually came to nothing, with Liverpool reportedly pulling out of the operation.

The 24-year-old ended up staying with PUMAS but then moved to Anderlecht in the January transfer window in a €2m deal.

Before that he had spoken on several occasions about the failed move to Liverpool, admitting that he’d had his bags packed ready to move to Anfield before the proposed move seemingly collapsed.

Now he appears to be backtracking on that somewhat, insisting Anderlecht were the only concrete offer he received when asked about the offers from Liverpool and Lazio.

“I took it very calmly, and many things were said there, and the reality is that I, formally and concretely, only had the interest of Anderlecht,” he said.

“There were the ones who travelled to Mexico and talked to me, they invited me to come here to see a game and see the facilities and that was the only concrete thing, and the truth is I am very happy with the decision I made and the step I took.

“It was a chemistry thing because they went to see me at a game in Mexico and they were fascinated with me, they convinced me and when I came here to see one of their games I visualized myself playing on the team and I think that added a lot and helped me make a much easier decision.”
