Falling out at Arsenal with Mikel Arteta after his on-pitch bust up with Brighton & Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay, Mattéo Guendouzi spent last year at Hertha BSC before being sent, almost for good, to Marseille this season.
The general feeling is that the midfielder will be eventually bought by the Ligue 1 side, who have started rather well under Jorge Sampaoli.
The last few games might not have gone that well, with results just about getting away from Marseille, and tensions started to rise on the pitch, with the Arsenal loanee in the middle of it all.
Guendouzi was spotted exchanging heated words with Gerson, but the Brazilian isn’t the only one who appears to have a problem with the midfielder, who, just a week ago, was being lauded for his attitude.
Speaking on the OM Talk Show for Le Phocéen, journalist Romain Canuti explained the current situation surrounding the Arsenal player in the south of France.
He said, relayed by Foot Radio: “There’s isn’t just Gerson who is fed up with Guendouzi. That doesn’t matter, you don’t need to read too much into it, but there are a few players at OM who are struggling with Guendouzi. His way of working, when he always blames others for things, when he falls to his knees in training to implore God because a touch isn’t good enough, it grates.
“I don’t blame him for this attitude, we know this type of temperament in Marseille, but there are foreign players who aren’t that into it, who have a lot of trouble with that. When you’ve got a guy like that, who always criticises, you might not want to sympathise with him down the line. That being said, OM need characters, Guendouzi has some, so that’s good too”.
We’ll have to wait and see if this evolves into anything bigger, and we’ll be keeping an eye on what’s being said in France, because if things turns sour between the squad and Guendouzi, that could lead to a reluctance from Marseille to go out of their way to ensure the purchase clause is triggered.
