There’s a claim in the Turkish media that former Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters agreed a transfer to Besiktas and then it failed due to personal reasons.
The right back is on the verge of signing for West Ham United after being linked with the London club in recent weeks.
Hürriyet today report on the situation with Walker-Peters as West Ham look to close a deal for him.
The 28-year-old was expected in Istanbul earlier this week after agreeing to sign for Besiktas on a free transfer. Personal terms had already been sorted out, and his official announcement was pending after he’d passed his medical.
However, Walker-Peters didn’t turn up on his scheduled flight with initial reports he’d remained in England due to family reasons.
Besiktas then released a statement saying they were no longer interested in the player, and today Hürriyet report the defender’s partner vetoed the move to Turkey.
Subsequently it now seems Walker-Peters will be remaining in the Premier League with West Ham close to signing him. He made 38 appearances in all competitions for Southampton last season.
There’s no way Besiktas and their local media could merely accept Walker-Peters rejected the club for West Ham, so finding other reasons is attractive to them.
