Troy Parrott has admitted it was the right time for him to leave Tottenham, as he looks to get underway at new club AZ Alkmaar.

The striker has been speaking to De Telegraaf, relayed by Soccer News, following his move from Tottenham this summer.

Parrott brought an end to a seven year stay with Spurs this summer when he completed a €4m move to Alkmaar earlier this month.

He joined Tottenham as a youngster from Belvedere FC in Ireland in 2017 but failed to make the grade for the club, instead spending the last few years out on various loan deals with the likes of Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston and then Excelsior.

It was the latter deal with proved to be the most successful as he bagged 17 goals and five assists in 32 games for the club across last season.

Those numbers convinced Alkmaar to sign him this summer, with them needing to replace striker Vangelis Pavlidis, who has joined Benfica.

He’s left big shoes to fill but Parrott is looking forward to doing so, admitting that this summer was the perfect time to leave Tottenham and start somewhere else.

“I don’t want to put pressure on myself, but if I play well and help the team, I hope it works out,” he said.

“I think AZ is a good place where players get the opportunity to develop. I have been at Tottenham for a long time, but it was time to move on.”
