AS Roma are starting to make movements to try and sign Gianluca Scamacca from West Ham United this summer, reports Monday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian media have been convinced for months that the player fancies a return to Serie A, partly because they often seem to believe no Italian footballer can truly be happy outside the country.
Corriere state ‘here is the plan’ and explain that whilst contact has not yet been made with West Ham directly, Roma have been in touch with Scamacca’s entourage.
That plan, unsurprisingly, involves a loan deal.
According to the Italian newspaper, Roma would want to take the player on ‘a loan with the right to buy, or an obligation at an affordable price and conditional on his seasonal performance’.
West Ham should probably dismiss the right to buy option. Serie A clubs never really seem to have any intention of using option fees they’ve agreed during loan negotiations.
The Hammers themselves have found this out with Nikola Vlasic.
Any loan with a conditional obligation would also have to be studied carefully by the Premier league club, because if there’s a way of getting him cheaper instead then Roma would use every course of action they could.
