West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca was today mentioned in a press conference held by Italy manager Roberto Mancini.

The question was about the lack of good strikers at the national team, which seems to be a generational problem for the Azzurri.

Despite admitting there are not many options for that position these days, Mancini still tried to get a good example, and claimed Scamacca has been working well in his adaptation at West Ham.

“There are historic moments, in the past there was a lack of defenders or midfielders, today we don’t have great forwards. But we are trying to find them. If we succeed, it will be a good thing,” said Roberto Mancini (via Tutto Mercato Web).

“Gianluca Scamacca for example is gaining good experience, the Premier League is difficult. Young players have to play, in Italy or abroad. There are many players who still play in youth ranks. In our opinion, there are quality players, the hope is to have them with more experience.”

Mancini’s main concern seems to be about playing time, and that Scamacca has been getting at West Ham, as he already has 24 appearances for the club, having scored seven goals.

The Hammers spent €36m to sign the player from Sassuolo last summer, and that may even be a reason for fans to expect more from the Italian striker.

However, with Mancini being more worried about his minutes on the pitch, there’s hope he’ll be able to help the national team.

Scamacca has played nine games for Italy, but is still to score his first goal for his country.
