Kerim Frei to Birmingham City came from nowhere on Thursday. The winger had been strongly linked with West Brom, with Tony Pulis said to be pushing the club’s interest and an offer had been expected.
However, West Brom’s offer either didn’t arrive to Besiktas or it wasn’t enough, because the Turkish club announced on Thursday that talks with Birmingham City were progressing, as the Turkish press clamoured to say a deal had been agreed for €2.5m.
Frei would need to pass a medical and agree terms for the deal to be truly done, and Turkey’s Fanatic say the player is set to sign a 3 and a half year contract with Birmingham.
Sabah say Frei has said goodbye and they picture the player on a plane with agent Semih Usta. That picture has been taken from an Instagram account named in the agent’s name, and is timed as 18 hours ago.
If it all fits into place, a medical would be expected today or over the weekend, and a Birmingham announcement would follow.
It will be another addition for Gianfranco Zola, after Cheick Keita arrived, we covered three days ago that a fee had been agreed for the defender.
