Rangers showed Philippe Clement the exit door in February, and he hasn’t returned to the bench since leaving Ibrox.
Rangers appointed the Belgian as Michael Beale’s successor at in October 2023 and he managed 88 games, winning the Scottish League Cup during the 2023/24 season.
Wednesday’s edition of Gazet van Antwerpen have published an interview with Clement, where they discuss about his spell at Rangers, AS Monaco and Club Brugge.
In February 2025, Rangers lost to lower division side Queen’s Park FC in the Scottish FA Cup, and later that month, they suffered a 2-0 league defeat to St Mirren, after which the 51-year-old left Ibrox.
The newspaper points out Rangers were second in the league and were in the last 16 of the Europa League when they parted ways with Clement.
GVA state ‘reflecting on the dismissal is not an option with Clement.’ The Belgian is of the belief he may joined Rangers and Monaco [January 2022 to June 2023] at a wrong time.
“Too delicate to discuss, that’s the agreement,” said Clement.
“I sometimes find it hard to put that out of my mind, because the circumstances in which something like this happens aren’t always known to the outside world, and that’s why it’s hard for me to call it dismissal.
“The trick is to look past it. I may have joined those clubs at the wrong time. But I’m still well-liked in Monaco and Glasgow because they know the work I’ve done.”
Following Clement’s exit, Barry Ferguson was appointed as interim manager before Russell Martin took over as the permanent manager at Ibrox in the summer.
This season, Rangers are yet to register a win in the league and were eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers by Club Brugge.
