Rodrigo Bentancur’s personal trainer Daniel Fernández has provided a positive update on the Tottenham midfielder after his head injury against Leicester City.

Fernández has been speaking on Uruguayan radio, relayed by Medios Publicos, about his client after the concerning scenes in the 1-1 draw with Leicester on Monday.

Bentancur had started the game for Tottenham but was withdrawn as a concussion substitute in the second half of the game after being knocked unconscious following a clash of heads at a corner.

The midfielder received treatment on the pitch for several minutes while teammates and opponents were seen to be visibly distressed by the incident.

He was subsequently removed from the pitch on a stretcher with oxygen but reports during the game confirmed he had responded well to initial treatment. This was later confirmed by Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who provided a positive update after the game.

Fernández followed that up with comments yesterday, explaining that Bentancur was set for further scans this week to make sure that nothing was wrong.

He’s now provided another update on the matter, explaining that all is well, and Bentancur had responded quickly after the initial injury.

“It was a great scare, but it seems to me that he is recovering well,” he said

“After an hour in the dressing room he reacted well. Today he will continue with some tests that they are going to do and well we’re hoping that everything continues as it has so far.

“I think he was in a good mood and in good condition It’s difficult sometimes to think what may happen but good thanks to God it seems to me that everything is going to be fine, and Rodrigo is going to be in optimal conditions.”
