In the last window, Leeds United allowed Robin Koch to join Eintracht Frankfurt on a loan deal.
The German club sealed a 2-1 win over Aberdeen in their Europa Conference League tie on Thursday, and the centre-back starred for his side by scoring the winner.
The Germany international remains hopeful that his decision to leave Leeds temporarily will help him return to the national team, and his quotes are relayed by Stern.
“Of course, my goal is to come back [to the national team] in the long term. But I don’t think much about it. It’s about showing good performances week after week. That’s what I’m concentrating on. Other people have to decide everything else,” he said.
The Leeds man’s last outing for Germany was in June 2021 and he hasn’t been included in the national team squad since the last European championship.
According to Stern, Germany sporting director Rudi Völler has ‘already recommended’ the 27-year-old’s return to the national team.
Völler was in attendance at the Deutsche Bank Park for Eintracht Frankfurt’s latest clash, which the Leeds defender wasn’t aware of.
“I didn’t know that. Let’s see if he can give the new national coach a tip,” Koch explained.
Earlier this month, Germany sacked Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann is reportedly the leading candidate to be his successor.
Koch’s contract at Leeds lasts until 2025 and he’ll have to return to Elland Road after his loan spell at the Bundesliga side this season if no agreement can be found.
