On February 14th, Tuttosport reported Federico Chiesa has long been on Liverpool’s radar and they could intervene to sign him. Four days ago, we relayed news from Italy that Newcastle United are also in the mix for the Juventus player.
The attacking midfielder has less than 18 months left on his deal and there’s uncertainty over his long-term future.
Calciomercato.it state the 26-year-old has received sirens from Liverpool and Newcastle.
The report says the Italy international was whistled by Juve fans when he was taken off in his side’s win over Frosinone at the weekend, and it makes his situation complicated at the Turin club.
They have also relayed updates provided by La Stampa journalist Gianluca Oddenino to TV Play’s Ti Amo Calciomercato.it.
The Liverpool and Newcastle target’s renewal was complex even when he was doing well on the pitch, and a sale could be a ‘concrete option’ in the summer. The journalist states the Old Lady want to have clarity over his future soon.
“So, the player, but above all Juventus, are making some reflections, also because there was talk of an extension at very high price. Also given the general situation of Juventus in terms of budgets, there’s still a stalemate,” he said.
“Clearly the deadline in 2025 means there’s a rush to find a solution. He can also renew the contract by calming down his requests or in any case remain on the current figures or at most a little more. Or Chiesa’s adventure at Juve could end, but with the club trying to sell him in the summer to recoup the investment made when he was taken by Fiorentina, so as not to lose him on a free transfer.”
Oddenino adds Premier League clubs have “always been interested” in the former Fiorentina man.
When discussing his options, the report explains that both Liverpool and Newcastle are ‘particularly attentive to Chiesa’s future’.
The player has scored two goals since September and Oddenino says his current situation doesn’t help him nor Juve, if they decide to cash in from his sale in the summer.
