On Wednesday, Sky Sports were still sticking to their claims that West Ham and Valencia had both had £29m offers accepted by Celta Vigo for their striker Maxi Gomez.

That’s despite Celta’s president making it clear that wasn’t the case.

In recent days it’s been made clear the two Spanish clubs have reopened talks and everything has looked much brighter for a move to Valencia.

Thursday lunchtime saw a handful of new claims which push Gomez closer and closer to Los Ches.

Cadena Ser report Gomez will move to Valencia on a four year contract for an initial €14.5m fee, plus a further €1.5m in possible bonuses.

Santi Mina will go the other way as part of the deal, and Jorge Sáenz will be loaned. That upfront fee is lower than Celta had wanted.

Originally they’d been demanding €25m plus Santi Mina, with Valencia wanting to pay €10m, so it looks like the latter have got the deal closer to how they wanted it.

The loan of Sáenz, a 22 year old central defender who has just been signed from Tenerife, won’t really be a big financial benefit.

West Ham look to have lost out here, unless there’s any very dramatic late developments.
