Tottenham signing Radu Dragusin has been overhyped and too much fuss is being made about him this month.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Mimmo Malfitano, who it seems is less than impressed by the furore around the defender in recent weeks.

Dragusin completed a move to Tottenham yesterday, with Spurs allegedly beating competition from Bayern Munich and other clubs for his signature.

The defender has seen his stock steadily rise since joining Genoa on loan in July 2022 before making the move permanent in July last year.

That saw him linked with several clubs, including Italian champions Napoli, while Bayern Munich made a late bid for him, which he ultimately rejected to honour his word and join Tottenham.

Much of the hype has been created by his agent who has masterfully managed the media when required in recent months, providing choice quotes and revealing small bits of information on a consistent basis to help grease the wheels of the transfer rumour mill.

It’s led to Dragusin ending up with a glowing reputation, and big expectations being put on him at Tottenham too, something Malfitano isn’t buying into.

“Radu Dragusin is getting overhyped, but we’re talking about an absolutely normal player,” he said.

“But who is he? Calafiori from Bologna is definitely better. We’re talking about a player who wouldn’t have changed anything in the immediate [at Napoli].

“He, like Samardzic, would not give the necessary jolt to the team coached by Walter Mazzarri. He would not improve the overall quality of the team.”
