On Thursday, we covered claims from Spain which stated Unai Emery has asked Aston Villa director Monchi to retain Marco Asensio at all costs.

The attacking midfielder joined Aston Villa on loan on winter deadline day and starred for the Villans, managing eight goals and an assist from 11 games.

Aston Villa haven’t secured a purchase option, and the 29-year-old has to return to PSG after this season.

Le Parisien, relayed by Le10 Sport, state the Premier League club want to extend his stay even though they haven’t yet opened talks with PSG.

Asensio’s contract with the Ligue 1 winners lasts until 2026. He doesn’t want to return to PSG, where he’s no longer taken into account by Luis Enrique.

L’Equipe cover the 29-year-old’s failure to cement a place under Enrique’s orders at Parc des Princes and his future.

Despite having a contract with the French club, a source close to him has told L’Equipe that he ‘doesn’t want to come back.’ Aston Villa, led by Monchi, would like to extend the Spanish international’s stay.

L’Equipe explain PSG aren’t too concerned about the former Real Madrid man’s situation. That’s because they ‘assure that other clubs have already called’ to find out the conditions needed to sign Asensio.

It looks like PSG have started to play games around Asensio, who isn’t keen on playing for them again.
