On Tuesday morning, reports from the Portuguese media claimed that the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool have been in contact to sign Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.

It was said that following the player’s arrival from his World Cup break, there are clubs interested in triggering his €120m release clause at the Eagles in January.

As the Argentine press covers the midfielder’s arrival in Lisbon, they name the same clubs as the favourites to land him.

TyC Sports journalist Gaston Edul writes that Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid, in that particular order, are those in the front row for the signing.

The report claims that Fernandez’s representative followed him to Portugal to ‘be close’ and negotiate a contract in case any club chooses to trigger the release clause.

So with both the Portuguese and the Argentine media now linking Manchester United and Liverpool in this battle, it seems there’s a good chance we could see the World Cup’s best young player moving to the Premier League in January.
