With Enzo Fernandes returning to Portugal today following his World Cup break, local sports newspapers come up to say he may not last long at Benfica.
It’s no secret that a few clubs will be trying to sign him from the Eagles in January, and Manchester United are up there against them, according to O Jogo.
The Red Devils ‘have advanced’ in recent days with ‘new contacts and approaches’ to convince Benfica of a sale in the middle of the season.
Following the €100m bid that recently arrived at the Luz, it’s said Manchester United are one of the clubs working to drive that bid up.
O Jogo makes similar mentions for Liverpool, claiming they made the same contacts as Manchester United. However, given the Reds are set to spend big on the singing Cody Gakpo from PSV, it’s hard to imagine Jurgen Klopp’s side completing another €120m transfer in the middle of the season.
