Everton and Nottingham Forest were two candidates for the signing of Carlos Alcaraz, his agent revealed.

Representative Sebastian Lopez was today interviewed by AS, and had a long conversation about the 21-year-old’s career so far.

The agent explained that with the Argentine not being a regular starter at his parent club this season, he was pushed towards an exit, and it turns out that some Premier League clubs, including Everton and Nottingham Forest, were interested in signing him in the January window.

“He is an important asset to the club who is not getting the minutes he needs, who is not being able to help the club achieve the goal of promotion. The coach prefers other options and I understand that it is a question of, I insist, communication. Because of the development of Charly’s career, we asked for the possibility to leave and they always made it clear to me that it was a loan move. There was no option to sell,” said Lopez.

“We had some options with Nottingham, with Lyon, with Marseille. And I was also talking to people from Everton. On Sunday, before the market closed, I went to London to explore all these options and to try to get a commitment from the club that a deal could be done.”

The Southampton player ended up being negotiated with Juventus, though, with the Old Lady finding an agreement late on in the transfer window for a loan until the end of the season, and a buying option worth €50m.

Things haven’t been great for the midfielder in Italy, however, where he is currently injured and only has four appearances, struggling to impress so far. That’s why the buying clause is unlikely to be triggered.

While Juventus may be interested in negotiating a different fee for the transfer, perhaps Everton and Nottingham Forest could step in to try new deals as well in the summer, where money might be a bit more plentiful than midway through the season.
