With many reports in the Italian media today claiming AS Roma are making strong moves to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, there’s now a general positive feeling about this attempt.
A story from TuttoMercatoWeb now claims that ‘optimism is growing’ that the centre-forward will leave the Blues to join the Serie A side.
Roma chiefs Tiago Pinto and Ryan Friedkin are today flying to London, and the operation is said to be ‘getting closer and closer’ to being done.
The Giallorossi are expected to sign Lukaku on a loan deal, paying Chelsea €10m for the move. They’re also covering all or at least most of his salary costs.
TuttoMercatoWeb points out there’s been a ‘direct line’ between Lukaku and José Mourinho, with the two having a phone call to talk about the transfer.
It’s recalled that Chelsea’s priority had always been to sell the striker, but with the Blues having a difficult time finding a buyer, they now opened up for a loan.
After all, if he doesn’t move in the coming days, he’d need to spend a season in a place he’s not wanted and without spending a minute on the pitch, since it’s been made clear by Mauricio Pochettino that he would use him.
