David de Gea wants to remain at Fiorentina this summer, unless an offer from Manchester United were to land on the table.

Journalist Niccolò Ceccarini reports that ‘only Manchester United’ could tempt the goalkeeper away from Florence in the coming months.

Manchester United return

The 35-year-old goalkeeper joined Fiorentina on a free transfer in August 2024, having spent a year out of the game following his departure from Manchester United in 2023.

He’s been one of the Italian side’s best players since, with 86 appearances to his name and 22 cleans sheets in total.

His current contract runs until 2028, but reports have linked him with a potential exit this summer. That was certainly the case as Fiorentina risked relegation earlier this season. They’re now 16th but nine points clear of the drop.

A summer of change is on the way for the Italian side, though, which could see big names depart. De Gea has no intention of doing so, it seems.

Ceccarini reports that David de Gea wants to remain at Fiorentina. Only a potential offer from Manchester United would make him consider otherwise.

Old Trafford send off?

The question is whether Manchester United would consider it. They now have Senne Lammens as their number one and he has impressed this season.

Altay Bayindir is the number two and expected to depart so that would open up space for a new back up goalkeeper. Would De Gea be happy with such a role at Old Trafford? It certainly could suit him now that he’s in the twilight of his career.

It would also offer the Spanish goalkeeper, who made 545 appearances for Manchester United during his time there, a more fitting send off than the one he received three years ago. It is, perhaps, a question of head or heart this summer. But the opportunity is there if Manchester United wish to explore it.
