Real Madrid have Paul Pogba ‘under close scrutiny’ ahead of the January transfer window, with his Manchester United contract yet to be renewed.

Pogba is in the final year of his current deal at Old Trafford, and so far, there has been no progression on a renewal.

Indeed, his agent Mino Raiola has heavily suggested on more than one occasion that the French star will not be signing a new deal at any point and leaving on a free transfer next summer.

Whether that happens remains to be seen, but if no new deal is signed in the coming months, he will be free to talk to clubs in January regarding a free transfer next summer.

Real Madrid are one of those who are likely to be keen, having regularly been linked with Pogba during Zinedine Zidane’s two spells in charge of the club.

It’s believed that they are the Manchester United man’s dream club, and it seems they are keeping a close eye on his situation.

According to Onda Cero journalist Alberto Pereiro, the Spanish giants currently have a number of players whose contracts are expiring ‘under close scrutiny’ ahead of next summer.

One of those recently renewed his deal in Munich; we’ll assume Leon Goretzka, while the rest ‘you all know very well’, with him adding it is ‘one in Manchester, one in Paris and one in London’.

Now the one in Paris has to be Kylian Mbappé, while the one in London is Antonio Rudiger, leaving Pogba as the one in Manchester.

Of course, it could also be Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata or Lee Grant, given their Manchester United contracts expire next summer as well, but we’re pretty sure it’s Pogba given the links between him and Madrid over the last few years.

It’s a story that’s likely to build in the coming months and no doubt we’ll hear more from Raiola before the January transfer window rolls around too. In the meantime, it seems Madrid are keeping a close eye on Pogba ahead of a busy summer next year.
