Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool has been called into question a lot of times by the Italian press, indeed it feels like the exit stories started before he’d unpacked his suitcases.
A host of Serie A sides have been linked with the winger and now, some steps are being taken by Napoli in their move for the ex-Juventus star.
Gazzetta dello Sport report the Naples club are ‘pushing on the accelerator’ for Chiesa and trying to thrash out a deal with Liverpool executives for a summer transfer.
Antonio Conte’s side have already made their offer for the Italy international, putting forward a loan deal with the option to buy the player permanently.
Liverpool want an obligation to buy in the offer, though, and Chiesa’s own wish is to return to Italy.
In fact, he is said to be ‘enthusiastic’ about returning to the country, playing in the Champions League and then breaking into the Italy national team again.
Napoli will have no problem meeting his wage demands of around €4.5m after tax. The real challenge is posed by Liverpool, but there is optimism regarding a potential deal and the transfer is described as being ‘at a very advanced stage’.
