It’s been a while since Lucas Martinez Quarta started being linked to European clubs. The River Plate defender has been standing out for the Argentine side lately, and is expected to receive some offers in this transfer window.

One of the sides who’ve been interested in the 24-year-old are Leeds United. As reported by Sport Witness, the Whites have been following the player for a while, and now with the promotion to the Premier League, they could soon make a bid for him.

Quarta was interviewed by Marca this week, and answered to a few questions regarding his future. The first one was about his contract, which expires in 2021, and the chances of moving this summer.

“The dream of every footballer is to play in Europe, I have that dream of being able to play in Europe, for a big club, to be in the national team… it’s the dream of every footballer and I am at an age that would be good to make the jump. But with all this we depend on many things. I’m calm, of course. For that we have a representative. It remains for me to train and prepare for what comes here or wherever. Try to be well prepared for what comes.”

Then Marca mentioned that he’s been linked to the likes of Valencia, Inter Milan and Leeds United, but Quarta didn’t want to speak about any specific club.

“I’ve also seen news and it’s a pride that those teams are watching me. I spoke to my representative at the time that when there’s something concrete he’d tell me. The reality is that today with the whole issue of the pandemic, although the transfer market is open, nothing can be done until the clubs have their budgets. I try to be calm and wait. If an offer comes, my agent will tell me and we’ll analyse it. I’m proud that those teams with history take notice of me. It’s a dream to play in Europe and obviously I will fulfil it if God wants.”

Finally, he was asked about what would need to happen for him to make the move to an European side.

“I don’t know how that is handled. The club that is interested will have to speak to my representative with the club and if the offer is good for the club and for me, we sit down and analyse it and decide what happens. Now I want to be calm, try to start the preseason as well as possible.”
