Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier continues to be on AS Roma’s wish-list for the winter transfer window.
An update on this chase is now brought by Roma Today, who highlight the many defensive problems the Giallorossi have been having this season.
The outlet says this is a ‘dramatic situation’, with Roma in ‘constant emergency’, and that’s where the Tottenham player gets a mention.
Dier is said to be José Mourinho’s ‘favourite’, as he’s an ‘old obsession’ for the Portuguese manager.
Roma reportedly have many other names on the table, but it’s really the Tottenham player who has the coach’s preference.
Club director Tiago Pinto recently spoke about the problem, and made it clear that they need to go after defensive signings in January.
“We have five central defenders and two injured. Smalling doesn’t know when he comes back and N’Dicka has to go to the Africa Cup of Nations, it’s obvious what Mourinho says and we all think so, we’re short. Let’s see if something comes,” said Pinto.
Dier’s contract with Tottenham expires next summer, and as he only has two appearances for the club this season, he’s supposed to be an easy signing. It remains to be seen whether Spurs will make his departure easy or if they’ll fight to get small compensation before letting him go.
