Back in the summer window, reports from Brazil claimed that Nottingham Forest were interested in São Paulo midfielder Jhegson Mendez.
It was said the Tricky Trees made an approach for the 26-year-old, but the Tricolor were actually not interested in selling him in the middle of the South American season.
Now as journalist Venê Casagrande features an update on Mendez’s situation, it’s shown that Nottingham Forest will still have a chance to sign the player in the January window.
On Twitter, he writes that in the past two weeks, São Paulo turned down two offers for the midfielder.
Turkish side Antalyaspor were the first to try, making an offer for a loan with a €1m buying option. Then Russian club FK Sochi made a better bid, also for a loan, with a €2m purchase clause and letting the Tricolor keep 50% of a future sale.
São Paulo turned both down. Even though Mendez is on their bench, they know how important it is to keep him until the end of the season. Now the Russian transfer window is closed and that subject is over for a while.
That should certainly change by December, and Nottingham Forest should get a better chance to sign a player who doesn’t sound expensive.
