Despite initial reports sounding confident that Nottingham Forest would sign Angelo from Santos, we now see the Brazilian media getting pessimistic about this move.
Outlet UOL writes that with the clubs not finding a deal regarding the payment method, the talks ‘went cold’ at this stage.
Nottingham Forest’s idea was to sign Angelo on a loan with an obligatory buying option worth €18m deal, to be triggered in case they avoid relegation.
Santos’ request was €1m for the loan and €18m for the purchase, and that sounded pretty reasonable at first. The problem is that the Reds wanted to split the payments in instalments in 2023, 2024 and 2025, while the Brazilian club wanted it all paid this year.
According to UOL, talks went on for days, but Nottingham Forest didn’t even make their bid formal. And now people close to the negotiations believe there won’t be enough time to sort out the pending issues, partly because Santos still wanted the percentage of a future move.
The outlet then says that unless there’s a huge turnaround, the transfer isn’t happening. So it all sounds like if the talks had started earlier, there was a bigger chance this move would have taken place.
