On August 6th, 1908.nl said Nottingham Forest are keen on signing Feyenoord’s Santiago Giménez.
The striker had earlier received an offer from the Reds, but he hasn’t been keen on joining them.
That’s according to Fox Sports Mexico, who claim the 23-year-old has changed his mind over the possibility of joining Nottingham Forest.
Fox Sports journalist Gustavo Mendoza says Nottingham Forest owner Miltiades Marinakis’ son has made several calls to Giménez.
He adds the Mexico international has also held talks with Nuno Espírito Santo, and this has helped him change his stance over joining the Premier League side.
“He’s reconsidering Nottingham Forest’s offer to play this season. Yesterday he received a call, with whom he had been talking for a long time, from Nuno (…) this gesture from the manager has made him reconsider,” he told Fox Sports.
Nottingham Forest have taken further steps to secure the player’s services in this window, according to Claro Sports.
It’s claimed the Reds have tabled a formal bid of over €35m and this meets Feyenoord’s demand. Despite this, the player and his club aren’t in a hurry to make a final decision.
The English club were in a relegation battle over the last two seasons but joining them will let the Mexican play in the Premier League. He has also attracted interest from another unnamed Premier League side, along with clubs in Germany and Italy.
Giménez is evaluating pros and cons of a transfer and would be happy to continue at the Dutch club, if a deal doesn’t materialise this summer.
Mendoza claims Nottingham Forest’s latest calls have made him reconsider joining them, while Claro Sports say he’s yet to make a final decision.
