Nottingham Forest made two bids for Ajax striker Chuba Akpom on deadline day of the January transfer window, but the Dutch side refused to play ball.
That’s according to Voetbal International, who report that Akpom had hoped to secure a move away from the Netherlands before the window shut.
They explain that the striker wanted a move to get away from being a reserve player at Ajax this season and wasn’t lacking in interest, with Lille and Crystal Palace showing it earlier in the market and then Nottingham Forest having ‘signed up’ late on.
That’s because Nottingham Forest were only offering loans and the Dutch giants refused to do such a deal if there was no mandatory purchase option included, which it seems there was not.
Thus the move never came to anything, despite talks taking place on the final day of the window and the two clubs going backwards and forwards on the matter before the window eventually closed.
