That Fulham and Nottingham Forest are interested in Lewis Ferguson isn’t news, but we now see a report suggesting first moves have been made.
It comes from Calciomercato, who have an article on the Scottish midfielder and his great season at Bologna, where the Craven Cottage and City Ground sides are mentioned.
It’s said that Fulham and Nottingham Forest ‘would like to bet’ on the 24-year-old and the Premier League is a league that ‘fascinates’ Ferguson.
The two English clubs are said to have made ‘in-depth contacts’ ahead of a potential transfer, but they are not the only teams in the mix.
Ferguson also has ‘many admirers’ in Italy, with Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli and Atalanta all there, and a lot could depend on Thiago Motta, who wants to manage the midfielder next season regardless of where he is.
Therefore, if he were to switch to one of the clubs above, he would likely want to take the player with him.
That’s a warning for Nottingham Forest and Fulham, who are told that €20m (that will be a minimum) are needed to convince Bologna of a sale this summer.
What also gives teams in Italy an advantage are the recent comments from his agent, Bill McMurdo, who told TV Play that Ferguson ‘loves the Italian culture’ and is ‘having a great time’ there, before adding that he believes his client ‘will still be playing in Serie A in the next five years’.
It is now up to Fulham and Nottingham Forest to change that mindset.
