Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has insisted he is not particularly concerned with talk about whether his move to Anfield can be deemed a successful one.
The striker has been speaking to Voetbal International, relayed by Voetbal Belgie, following the conclusion of the recent international break.
He was once again a part of Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands squad as they took on Scotland and Germany in international friendlies.
It proved to be a relatively good break for him as he bagged two goals in the 4-0 win over Scotland, before playing a brief 15-minute role in the loss to the Germans.
That double continued his solid goalscoring run of late with Liverpool, which has seen him score two goals and an assist in his last five appearances.
Indeed, a tally of 20 goals and eight assists in 68 games in total is nothing to be sniffed at but there are those who continue to raise questions about Gakpo and Liverpool.
Some have debated whether the move has worked out how he might have hoped, given he arrived after managing 55 goals and 50 assists in 150 games for PSV Eindhoven.
He, though, insists he’s completely uninterested in such a debate and is instead focused on himself.
“I personally wasn’t that concerned with that,” he said on the debate about him.
“I am aware of the situations that have occurred and that are occurring and the expectations. I am someone who always looks at, what can I do better and how can I develop myself? And that is still the case today.
“There are things that are going well and things that are not going so well that I have to develop that can be developed and I am fully engaged in that, and I am not really concerned with whether that transition has been successful anymore.”
