Brazilian side Corinthians are interested in bringing Willian back to the club, according to reports from the Brazilian media.
The first claims on Monday were made by TV presenter Neto, who is a club legend. Even though he doesn’t often break transfer news, he brought some information on this case.
The pundit claimed that he ‘has a friend’ in Orlando, where Willian has business, and was told that there’s a chance the player can leave Arsenal to join Corinthians this summer.
That may sound like a strange way of reporting a transfer story, at least for European fans who have no idea of who Neto is, but you can trust us that this is far from the weirdest things he says on live TV.
Then in a more serious report, website Meu Timão managed to speak to sources from Corinthians. They learned there’s been a ‘consultation’ about Willian’s situation at Arsenal.
The player’s preference is said to be to stay in Europe. However, even though he ruled out a move back to Brazil before, the scenario changed because he’s no longer in Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Gunners.
Willian even made a post on Instagram showing he was watching a Corinthians game on Sunday night. Still, the salary he has at Arsenal would be a huge problem in the negotiations.
Later on, ESPN Brasil reporter Bruno Vicari brought another update. He says Corinthians and other clubs who made an approach for the winger heard that he’s not willing to return to Brazil at the moment.
And it turns out that even Willian’s father joined the conversation. He’s well involved with Corinthians, and when speaking to Globo Esporte, he made it clear that the transfer would be hard to complete.
“Corinthians always wanted him, but didn’t make a proposal now. It’s difficult, but not impossible. If it’s going to happen, then it depends on who is going to negotiate.”
