While there were some whispers that Joachim Andersen could leave Crystal Palace this summer, the Denmark international stayed put.

The 27-year-old has become an integral part at Selhurst Park under Roy Hodgson, and talk of a move within the Premier League to some bigger clubs emerged.

While that might have been the case in the media, the Crystal Palace player, now with his national team during the international break, told the local press that it was never really close.

Relayed by Bold.dk, the centre-back admitted there was ‘a bit of back and forth’ with some clubs, but ‘nothing concrete’ came of it.

In fact, the player is ‘really happy’ to be at Crystal Palace, admitting they have a ‘great team’ at Selhurst Park where he has a ‘big role’.

The Dane was also asked when the next step in his career should be taken, and that’s when he revealed his true ambitions.

He said: “It’s a super difficult question, because it’s not something I’m in control of. It’s clear that I would like to play in the biggest and best clubs in the world, but what happens is not always up to me. It’s clear that I’m now 27 years old, and if I’m going to make a transfer, it should preferably be within the next few years.

“I’m not getting any younger either. If a club is going to pay some money for me, they should ideally be able to see some perspective in it.”

The defender first arrived at Crystal Palace in 2021 from Lyon in a €17.5m transfer, and has since made 76 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting another three.
