Brighton & Hove Albion star Pervis Estupiñán has told SportsCenter Ecuador that the Premier League side have managed well since Moisés Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister left the club.

The Seagulls sold the Ecuador midfielder to Chelsea for a record fee of £110m while the Argentine joined Liverpool for a reported initial fee of £35m.

Estupiñán believes Brighton are in the process of making up for the exits, and have managed well so far. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have started the season on a bright note by collecting nine points from four games and that puts them in sixth spot.

“Two players who were very important for us left, but since last season, the mister [manager] had been making changes and the team was working well,” he said.

“We started this season well, the Premier League is very competitive, and the team is working to try to make up for those two exits. The Mister’s idea is the same and we know each other a lot.”

Brighton have bolstered their midfield by signing James Milner, Mahmoud Dahoud and Carlos Baleba in the recently concluded window, and the trio will have to try to fill the void left by the departures of Caicedo and Mac Allister.

De Zerbi joined the Seagulls in September of last year and the 25-year-old states the manager has had a positive influence on his development. The fullback has a goal and two assists from four games this season.

“For the footballer, having the coach’s trust is important, the essential thing to continue growing. Since he arrived, he showed me his confidence and has helped me perform well in each game,” Estupiñán explained.
