At Newcastle United since September of 2022, Loris Karius appears to be living his final months in the north of England.
That’s because his contract with the Magpies expires at the end of the campaign, and there has been a well documented interest from the German player to go to Italy as his next step.
The reason for that is his engagement to and child with Diletta Leotta, and the move to be represented by Claudio Marchisio’s new agency is looked at by AS Roma Live, who cover the Newcastle goalkeeper.
The website examine the situation at the Serie A side, with Mile Svilar the number one between the sticks under Daniele De Rossi, and Rui Patricio seemingly on his way out in the summer.
This leaves a free spot to be filled, but a lot will depend on who the club will be appointing as their new director of football once Tiago Pinto leaves.
They explain that one of the first port of calls will be ‘looking for a reinforcement to replace Rui Patricio’, and Karius could be an option.
It’s said that ‘it is not excluded’ that the German’s name ends up on Roma’s table ahead of the next campaign, but ‘all discussions are referred’ to the next director of football, who would only ever consider him as Svilar’s backup.
As things stand, Karius ‘does not appear as a priority name’ for the Italian club, but if the 24-year-old ends up being confirmed as next season’s starter, then a move for the current Newcastle goalkeeper could ‘light up as a free solution for the second’ place.
