West Ham United are said to be showing interest in Barcelona’s Dro Fernández ahead of the winter market.
Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo relays claims made in the UK about West Ham and then provides their own take.
The 17-year-old climbed through the ranks of Barcelona’s academy. Hansi Flick handed him his first team debut in September by starting him in the 2-1 league win over Real Sociedad.
Earlier this month, the attacking midfielder started in his side’s 6-1 Champions League win over Olympiacos. He even assisted Fermín López’s second goal.
The latest claims from England have reported West Ham scouts are following him. It was also said they’re preparing to make an offer in the next window.
Fernández will turn 18 years of age on January 12th, making him eligible to move to the UK, provided he obtains a work permit.
West Ham would have to convince the player to give up his dream of having a career at Barcelona to join them. The newspaper states this is ‘not easy’ for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
The youngster has a contract until 2027, and Mundo report the La Liga winners’ plan is secure his long-term future.
In other words, West Ham have to convince both Fernández and Barcelona to secure his services. This won’t be easy, making a potential deal complicated for the Hammers.
