Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has insisted Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen cannot be considered a discovery this season, as he already knew how good he was.

AS cover an interview with the Spain coach today, given to Telemadrid’s LaOtra programme, in which the Bournemouth star was part of the discussion.

Huijsen has been one of the revelations of the season for Bournemouth this year after signing in a €15.2m deal from Juventus in the summer.

He’s since established himself as a key player and a growing Premier League star with a series of impressive performances for Andoni Iraola’s side this season.

He is expected to secure a major transfer this summer as a result, with his current deal at Bournemouth having a €50m release clause and the likes of Real Madrid monitoring his progress.

Given he was a relative unknown at the beginning of the campaign, his impressive rise has certainly not gone unnoticed and led to some considering him as one of the discoveries of the season.

De la Fuente insists he can’t be a discovery, though, as he and his team knew all about him long before his impressive debut season at Bournemouth.

“(He) is not a discovery,” he said.

“We have already been following him, and he had played in the youth teams, not for a long time, because he is also very young, but for the time it has allowed him.

“There are many players, and that is the best news in Spanish football, who today are still unknown to the general public and to some media professionals, but not to those of us at the club, and that allows us to predict a great future in Spanish sport and football.

“I see him, if he has no objections, capable of playing for any team. I don’t see any limits. Right now, if we talk about limits like playing for a big club, many of them are playing for a big club, and Huijsen is having a great season in the Premier League and is ready. I’m sure that with time he’ll continue to improve, of course.”
