On Monday, Corriere dello Sport reported Norwich City’s Borja Sainz has received offers from several clubs, but the Canaries are refusing to let him leave in January.
The winger has managed 16 goals and two assists from 26 games and his performances haven’t gone unnoticed in Spain.
Sport claim Athletic have set their sights on the 23-year-old to improve their attack next season.
The Spanish club are expecting Nico Williams to leave next summer and are looking for his replacement in the market, and the report claims they have identified the Norwich City star as their ‘favourite’ target.
Sainz was born in the Basque region and was in Athletic’s youth system between 2012 and 2017.
The attacker’s deal lasts until 2026 and despite his fine displays for the English club, Sport claim he’s valued at €2m. This is certainly within the La Liga side’s reach and it makes his signing affordable for them.
Should Sainz not sign a new contract, it could favour Athletic during the negotiations with Norwich City.
