Aston Villa have identified Sevilla’s Marcos Acuña as a target, according to multiple reports from Spain.
Today’s Marca states the Villans have emerged as a new option for the 31-year-old in the ‘last few hours’ and ‘nobody expected this movement’ from the English club.
It’s claimed the La Liga side are open to selling the left-back but a deal depends on what Aston Villa will offer.
The Premier League side’s director, Monchi, signed Acuña for Sevilla in 2020. AS state he now wants to bring him to Villa Park and there have contacts between the parties over a potential deal.
Aston Villa have Lucas Digne and Álex Moreno as the two left-backs in their squad. Unai Emery isn’t pleased with the Frenchman.
It’s claimed the Villans have to get rid of Digne, who is one of the top earners at the club, before making an approach for the Argentina international.
The newspaper states Digne’s situation, coupled with Sevilla’s demand of €15m, makes it complicated for Aston Villa to sign Acuña. They don’t seem to be in favour of investing that fee on a player who will turn 32 in October.
Acuña is a key player for José Luis Mendilibar and the report states selling him would be an ‘important loss’ for Sevilla.
Over at Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, they also explain that Sevilla continue to ask for €15m from Aston Villa for the South American.
In order to lower the fee, it’s said Monchi could offer Diego Carlos on loan as part of the deal for Acuña. The report adds the Brazilian, who joined Aston Villa from Sevilla in 2022, is not included in Emery’s plans.
